about

For its eighth album, the electro-acoustic group Lightwave, has chosen to explore the worlds of colour and luminosity.
A mixture of tints, of twilight, of acoustic passages which place themselves on different horizons, like coloured mobiles and playful kaleidoscopes in slow rotation, the fourteen short pieces reunited here are like sound palettes that allow you to paint a possible landscape; the listener is invited to travel.
Working sound like others might work wood or stone, its textures and its consistencies, and creating in a workshop rather than in a factory, Lightwave, for now close to twenty years now, pursues its unpredictable path on the map of ‘new music’, avoiding definitions and stepping over genres.
In this album, for which Scriabine has provided the premier chromatic inspiration, the electronic ambiances of Christoph Harbonnier, Paul Haslinger and Christian Wittmann offer a sound screen for eight acoustic musicians who join in to integrate melodic and subtle passages.
“Blue like an orange” breunites musical accomplices of long date like Jacques Derégnaucourt (violin) and Renaud Pion (saxophone, flûte, clarinet) and of new travelling companions, like Denis Simandy (horn in F), Francoise and Philippe Couvert (soprano and violin), Jean-Luc Thonnérieux (soprano), Dominique Dujardin (violoncello).
Jon Hassell (trumpet) for two reasons contributes an exceptional share of the album.
